Everyone knows that the right bedding is essential for a good night’s sleep—including, of course, the best mattress to prevent back pain (I personally love my Avocado Green mattress), comfortable bedsheets, and even a cozy weighted blanket. But I’ve actually never realized what a difference the right pillow could truly make in your sleep—that is, until I tried The Original Pillow from Coop.
When I tried this popular pillow for the first time back in late 2023, I was definitely due for a major upgrade, as my previous pillows were often giving me a sore, achey neck in the morning and I was in in desperate need of a more supportive one. Enter: Coop’s most popular and best-selling pillow (it boasts over 57,000 ratings on Amazon!), which features a soft memory foam fill with adjustable features. Could it be worth the hype? Naturally, I had to find out for myself—and was immediately impressed with its plush feel and customizable support.
Now, it’s been more than two whole years since I first tried the pick—and I can honestly say that I’ve become even more obsessed (if that’s even possible!). It’s still my favorite, go-to pillow for sleeping on every night, thanks to its soft yet supportive feel, and I can also happily report that I’ve rarely woken up with any neck pain since making the upgrade. Not to mention, it’s held up very well with no signs of sagging or significant wear—it’s just as comfy as ever two years later, in fact!
Here’s the best part of all, though: Right now, this very pillow is discounted for 20% off at the Coop website for National Sleep Week, with the brand’s sale happening from now until March 16. So, if you’re wondering if you should snag the discounted pillow for yourself, keep scrolling for my honest review of the Coop Original Pillow.
How I Tested
I’ve been using the Coop Original pillow for over two years now. I own it in the Queen size and Classic shape (it also comes in a Crescent shape designed specifically for side sleepers who also rotate to their backs, and a Cut-Out shape designed specifically for side sleepers).
I’m primarily a side sleeper, though I also switch over to my back periodically through the night. I slept on the pillow with the loft as it originally came in the package the first night I tried it, but I found that it was a bit too high for my liking. I ended up taking out some of the filling for the rest of the test period, which you can easily do by unzipping the outer cover and the inner liner of the pillow and removing pieces of cross-cut memory foam.
After just about a month of testing out the Coop pillow, I knew it was going to be my new go-to pick for a restful night’s sleep—and now, after more than two years, I can confirm that it’s easily become my tried-and-true favorite.
The Construction: Adjustable Support
The Coop pillow is filled with a blend of cross-cut memory foam and microfiber—which is held in place by an inner polyester liner. It also comes with an outer cover that’s made of polyester and bamboo-derived viscose rayon. The foam fill is not only hypoallergenic (a feature I definitely appreciate as someone who suffers from allergies), but it’s also GREENGUARD certified and CertiPur-US certified, meaning it’s been rigorously tested to ensure it’s made without any harmful chemicals.
The best part about this pillow’s construction, though, is how easily you can customize the level of support. The pillow comes with an extra half-pound bag of the memory foam fill, which you can use to adjust the loft to your preferred comfort. Is the pillow too flat or low to your liking? No problem—just add more of the filling and zip it back up. On the flip side, if you find that the loft is too high, you can remove some of the filling from the pillow and add it back to the resealable bag.
This adjustability was one of my favorite parts about the Coop pillow—and the feature that made it stand out from the rest of the pillows I’ve tried before. Personally, I found the original loft of the Coop pillow to be too high (I usually prefer flatter pillows); after trying it out as-is the first night, I actually ended up waking up with a bit of a crick in my neck. But there was an easy fix: All I had to do was unzip the pillow cover, remove some of the filling, zip it back up, and voilà. The pillow was the ideal height for keeping my neck comfortable (and pain-free!) throughout the night. From then on, I never once woke up with any neck pain or soreness—a common occurrence with the previous pillows I’ve had.
The Feel: Plush, Breathable Comfort
The Coop pillow is actually the first memory foam pillow I’ve ever owned (my previous ones have all been down material), and I was amazed at how much of a difference the foam fill made in comfort. It gave it just the right amount of plushness and spring: The pillow contours to my head and neck as soon as I lay down on it, and it quickly returns to its original shape each time I shift or change positions throughout the night. Ultimately, I’m impressed with how this pillow provides a soft, plush feel while still being supportive enough for my neck and head.
Yet another great feature that adds to the Coop pillow’s superior comfort is its removable and machine-washable outer cover. It’s made of the brand’s signature Lulltra fabric, a blend of polyester and bamboo-derived viscose rayon—meaning there’s no need to buy an additional pillowcase. Personally, I’ve been using it with my own pillowcase (I prefer the feel of my silk pillowcases—they’re better for your hair and skin, too!), but I also tried it with its original cover for testing purposes and found the material to be super soft and breathable. Plus, I really appreciate how easy it is to unzip and throw in the wash. (Note: The inner pillow is also machine-washable and dryer-friendly!)
One Last Thing
After more than two whole years of testing out the Coop Original pillow, I can confidently say it’s worth the hype—it’s remained my favorite pillow since very first time I tried it! As a side and back sleeper, this pillow has truly been a game changer for a restful night’s sleep, providing me with the ideal level of softness and support to prevent neck pain—and ultimately have me snoozing comfortably all throughout the night. But I’d definitely recommend giving this pillow a try no matter what kind of sleeper you are, as its adjustability makes it so easy to tailor it to your unique sleep position and specific needs.
If you happen to need even more of a reason to add the pick to your shopping cart, the pillow is currently 20% off at the Coop website during the brand’s Sleep Week sale, happening now through March 16—which means you can snag it for as low as $80 right now (psst: the brand is also offering 20% off sitewide, with select items up to 40% off!). Plus, Coop also offers a 100-night risk-free trial and a five-year warranty, meaning there’s truly no risk in testing this pillow out to see if it’ll be a good fit for you.
I recommend you act fast to snag the Coop Original Pillow now at a discount—it’s truly changed my sleep for the better, and I believe it will do the same for you, too!
