Getting into the Thanksgiving spirit early might backfire on some Trader Joe’s shoppers after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) sent out a public health alert for Trader Joe’s Turkey Gobbler Wrap. The notice warned consumers that the ready-to-eat wraps might be contaminated after routine testing found that food contact surfaces associated with the product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
Which Trader Joe’s products are affected?
If you’re about to head to Trader Joe’s with Turkey Gobbler Wraps on your shopping list, you have nothing to worry about. There are no more affected products on the shelves, as they had a “best by” date of September 16, 2025.
For those who may still have one of these popular wraps in your fridge, you’ll want to check for the product name, the aforementioned best by date, and a USDA mark that includes “P-1644.” The wraps were shipped nationwide, so shoppers in every state may have come across them.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can live in unsanitary food production conditions, per the FDA, and lead to listeriosis. This can cause symptoms including fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. More severe cases may result in headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, miscarriage, premature delivery, and can ultimately be life-threatening. Health officials warn that it’s most dangerous for newborns, adults over the age of 65, and those with weakened immune systems.
So far, no adverse reactions to the wraps have been confirmed. But, if you find that you do have one of these Turkey Gobbler Wraps in your refrigerator or freezer, do not eat it—either throw it away or return it to Trader Joe’s.
Consumers can also contact Trader Joe’s for more information at 626-599-3817, Monday through Friday between 6:00am and 6:00pm Pacific Time.
