Supportive in the squat rack

This is a supportive, coverage-focused bra tank that’s best for low- to mid-impact workouts and anyone who prefers a more modest, secure fit. I wore this while weight training, running errands, and going on walks, so it got a mix of both active and casual use for several hours at a time across a few different days.

Right out of the bag, it felt very structured—almost like a scuba suit—and I expected it to be restrictive. Alo tends to run small, so I sized up to a medium, but I did notice some extra material that didn’t feel necessary. That said, it ended up being more comfortable than it initially looked and didn’t feel as tight or limiting as I anticipated.

The biggest pro is how secure it feels—it stays in place and provides solid support without shifting during workouts. I also appreciated the higher neckline, which offers great coverage without too much cleavage. A drawback is that Alo pieces often seem designed for smaller frames, and as someone more muscular, the fit isn’t always ideal. Overall, this is a great option for anyone who wants more coverage and a locked-in feel at the gym, especially for lighter workouts or everyday wear where comfort and modesty matter.

Charlotte Lewis Finigan

Stylish for long walks

I have previously known Alo to run small, so I sized up, which I ultimately think was a mistake. The website says it fits true to size for a snug and compressive fit, and I should have listened! Since extra shaping and compression was the only element I really felt was lacking from this otherwise perfectly executed bra top. Everything about it is built for support and comfort.

The built-in bra has removable cups, which is great for washing (is there anything worse than cups bunching up in the wash and having to smooth them out under the fabric?), and the fabric is thick enough to keep things in place, even without them. I absolutely loved the ribbed fabric of this top, which despite being slightly too large did not bunch up while I moved. The straps are so comfortable, and I really liked the way they came down in a V in the back to keep me feeling secure and contained—even on my long-distance, fast-paced walk.

Honestly, I will likely keep this one for more comfortable and relaxed days running errands this summer and grab one in my proper size for higher-intensity workouts or moments where I’d prefer a sleeker silhouette. I think it’s a perfect addition to anyone’s athleisure or athletic wardrobe, and it is sure to get regular rotation in mine.

Jordan Levy

Flattering from run to running errands

The Alo Seamless Long Ribbed Tankis the perfect staple for both workouts and everyday wear. It’s super flattering and form-fitting, making it great for running, while still being elevated enough to wear beyond the gym for errands or daily activities. I wore this tank on long walks with friends, while running errands to the grocery store, during a Pilates class, and during long runs. I found it to be very supportive thanks to the built-in bra, and the fit felt secure enough for running.

The tank has a snug and sculpting fit that doesn’t feel restrictive. It’s flattering and smoothing. The ribbed material is fairly thick, so it can run a bit warm during intense workouts like running. For walking or errands, it feels like the perfect weight. The biggest pro is how versatile and elevated it looks. It doesn’t read as a basic gym tank, but instead feels more like a piece you could wear every day in your wardrobe. I also own this tank in the cropped length, too, but I prefer the longer version because it provides more coverage while I’m moving. It also pairs well with leggings and doesn’t ride up. The main drawback is that the compression-style fit may not be for everyone, as it can feel tight and isn’t the most breathable.

Overall, I love this tank and think it’s a versatile addition to any wardrobe. You can wear it for errands or around the house, but it’s also stylish enough to take you from a workout straight into everyday activities.

Stephanie Dolgoff

Comfortable under-layer

I am on menopause hormone therapy and getting the dose right has been a challenge—my recent higher dose has been causing tenderness, until I tried the Alo Seamless Ribbed Favorite Bra Tank. Unlike my usual sports bras, it is neither too tight nor too loose—Goldilocks zone. I found myself wearing it doing everyday things because it was so comfortable and kept my painful breasts protected without squashing them. I also wore it walking, rowing, and weight training (all pretty low impact) and things stayed put, which is all I ask for. I even slept in it one night and it was comfortable for me, not too tight.

My only concern is that it is on the thick side; in hot weather it would be too much as a layer, and I, personally, cannot wear it alone, and not only because I have no interest in bearing my midriff: If you have a fleshy tummy or loose skin (as I do) the fitted style would make that more obvious. But it’s a definite yes as an underlayer (it looks nice under open button-downs), and I can vouch for the support for the types of exercise I do.

Jenn Gonick

Comfy enough for all day wear

Size: Extra-Small

This Alo bra tank has definitely made its way into my everyday rotation. When it comes to activewear, I tend to prefer lighter-weight fabrics to thicker compressive ones, which I often find restrictive, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this ribbed material. It’s form-fitting and flattering, but getting it over my head doesn’t feel like being sentenced to time in a straitjacket. Few things frustrate me more during a workout than having to constantly fidget with my top. Despite the cropped fit, the Alo tank’s compressive fabric stayed in place and didn’t ride up during the multiple Pilates and ballet classes I took with it on, which is a huge win in my book.

As someone with a smaller bust, support isn’t a huge consideration for me, so I often gravitate toward workout tops that forego padding. I appreciated that the removable cups in this tank stayed secure and weren’t constantly bunching up. However, after one reformer Pilates class with them in, I ended up removing the pads for convenience and found the tank still had plenty of support and shaping for me.

After multiple runs through the wash, the tank still looks good as new and continues to attract compliments whenever I wear it. It easily transitions from the gym or studio to running errands to the point that I’ve ended up wearing it for an entire day. That said, the thicker material means it’s not the most breathable, so it may not work for particularly sweaty workouts.

Straps always stay in place, even during hard workouts

My social media feed is filled with influencers and celebs (like Kyle Richards of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, one of my faves) wearing Alo apparel to do everything from working out to running errands, so I was thrilled to get the chance to test out Alo’s Seamless Ribbed Favorite Bra Tank to see if it lived up to its hype. If you’re someone (like I am) who needs all of her imperfect bits held into place in order to not fixate on the fact that you have, well, a body—then this top is for you. Its compressive style sucked in my belly and back without corset-like tightness, and the chest area had enough “give” that you could still tell I had (small) curves.

I wore the top for three different activities on three separate days over the course of a week—a full-body strength workout, an easy five-mile run, and errands—and was so immediately impressed with the Alo Seamless Ribbed Favorite Bra Tank’s fit. It was tight enough to make me feel comfortable and confident, but not so tight that it shifted or rolled up during movement (something that’s sometimes the case with other tight clothing items). The straps are a racerback design, which is my favorite style for a sports bra because I don’t have to constantly pull fallen straps back up over my shoulders in the middle of a workout. Plus, the crop fell exactly where it should, exposing just a peek of skin. The ribbed material makes it seem durable and like it will last long enough to become a staple; however, it didn’t feel as breathable and moisture-wicking as some of the other tops in my drawer, so I felt extra sweaty when I was finished working out.

One note on sizing: My chest is more of a size small (and I tested a Medium, since that’s how I like my tops to fit), so I did have some chafing post-run and wouldn’t recommend it for activities where you need more support. Bottom line: This top would be great for active individuals. You don’t have to fuss with it once it’s on, and it looks stylish as both active- and casual-wear.

When I was asked if I wanted to review the Alo Seamless Ribbed Bra Tank, I immediately said yes! As a 69-year-old woman who has been wearing workout bra tops for many decades, this one was checking all the boxes for my current situation—tank length is long enough to reach the top of my high-rise leggings since I prefer to not show as much skin these days, the straps are adjustable and far from skimpy for just the perfect amount of support, soft moisture-wicking fabric for my sweaty gym workouts, and cups that are removable which is my preference. I feel like this may run a little bit on the small size, since it was quite compressing. But I have been wearing this bra tank at my twice-weekly progressive overload strength training sessions and love it. I’m sure this will be a go-to top elsewhere, too, once the summer temps ramp up.
