7 Best Smart Scales to Better Understand Your Overall Health

The Renpho smart scale offers 18 measurements including your weight. It logs things like muscle and bone mass, BMI, hydration, and visceral fat. It also provides a snapshot of your protein mass, body type, and basal metabolic rate (a rough count of the calories your body needs to function while at rest). With this data, it’ll help you create goals for your weight, optimal fat, and muscle mass. You can also use the app to choose which of these metrics you want displayed on the scale, so they’re easier to track every time you step on.

Like others on this list, the scale comes with Baby mode for weight children (or pets, or even luggage), Pregnancy mode (also for people with medical implants), and an Athlete mode that adjusts your goals of managing your body fat and muscle mass.

Per the brand, the app can sync with your fitness watch as well as the Apple Heath, Fitbit, My Fitness Pal, Samsung Health, and Google Health Connect fitness apps.

What an editor says: Our Senior Commerce Editor, Charlotte Lewis Finigan, has been using this smart scale for five years. “As a part of qualifying for bariatric surgery, I had to undergo a year of a doctor-monitored nutrition and exercise plan with weekly weigh-ins,” she says. “However, I started in 2019 and as soon as 2020 came along, well. You know what happened. Amid lockdown, their office sent me this smart scale from Renpho that connects to an app we both had access to.

“I found it so helpful to have all my long-term tracking in one place, including logging my meals and workouts, along with my weekly weigh in. Plus, during the times that knowing my weight was causing me anxiety, I appreciated that I didn’t have to open the app and look, but could still stand on the scale for tracking purposes.”
