Now, the 68-year-old is sharing how to prevent eye makeup from smudging—an important topic for women over 50, as runny eyes are common with age.
Skin on our eyelids can sag over time, leading tears to build up. While waterproof mascara may help prevent smudging, it can be difficult to remove and may not always be best for sensitive eyes.
How to prevent smudging
“After applying eye cream and SPF and letting them totally dry, I use a clean small eyeshadow brush to dab finely milled translucent loose setting powder below my eyes, starting just under my lashes,” she says. “Begin with one or two dips—gently tap the brush on the side of the pot to remove excess powder—and add more as needed. The powder will absorb tears and moisture.”

It’s important to do this step before applying mascara, as applying after may leave you with a smattering of white-tipped lashes. It’s really that simple. But there are some caveats. First, be sure to avoid getting any of the powder into your eyes, as this may cause irritation. Another important consideration is the color of the powder. Translucent is key here, as opting for a tinted iteration may interfere with the makeup you’ve already applied.
