  • Denise Austin shared three easy cardio moves to “burn fat” and “boost energy.”
  • They require no equipment—not even a treadmill.
  • “Let’s go everyone, you GOT this!!!” Austin wrote.

The holiday break is over for Denise Austin, and she’s pumping out the workout tips to help you meet your fitness goals. This month alone, she has shared Pilates moves to feel strong, an easy booty-lifting exercise, and three simple moves for “sexy” arms. The latest demonstration covers cardio: Austin shared three cardio moves to “boost energy” and “burn fat,” and none of them require a treadmill.

“They will get your heart rate up, which will in turn boost your energy and your mood—win win!!” she captioned the video. “Plus it will help your bones too!!!” Ahead, learn her easy, achievable workout that keeps exercise approachable and fun for women over 50.

Side heel digs and overhead reach

Austin started off strong with high-energy heel digs—after all, cardio is all about getting the blood pumping. Austin demonstrated hopping side to side, putting her weight into one slightly bent leg and straightening the other, planting its heel on the ground before quickly alternating. Simultaneously, Austin incorporated her arms by pushing her hands into the air with each step. “Work those arms in,” she said. “The more muscles you use, the more calories you burn. So really move side to side … do this for a full minute.”

Side punch and lunge

Beginning with a wide stance, Austin turned her torso to one side and extended her front leg behind her, entering a standing lunge. Simultaneously, she pushed the front arm out as if she were aiming at an invisible punching bag. “Punch it out … really get low,” she exclaimed. “Really feel it in the arms, the legs, work those buttock muscles.”

Front heel digs and pull-down

This move is similar to the first, with a slight variation in that Austin did heel digs by extending her legs out in front of her, as opposed to her sides. And instead of pushing her arms up overhead, she enacted a pull-down motion and a small hop in between leg alternations. “You add a little plyometric to it, a little lift, this will really get that heart rate up and burn fat,” she said. “Go! One minute.” (Plyometric exercises are short, intense bursts of activity that help increase strength and stamina.)

“Do each move for at least one minute, and if you can, repeat two or three times!!” Austin concluded her caption. “Let’s go everyone, you GOT this!!!”

Austin always shares approachable exercises, and we can’t wait to bookmark this one!
