Guy Fieri is giving fans an update on his health after an incident left him in a wheelchair for eight weeks. In November, the Food Network star underwent surgery for a torn quad muscle in his thigh after he fell down a flight of stairs during the filming of his new series, Flavor Town Food Fight.
“The doctor said he’s never seen—you know, in 20 years—he hasn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in half,” he told Fox Digital at the time. “Yeah, it sucked.”
Although Fieri has been off his feet and in a wheelchair for eight weeks as a result of the tear and resulting surgery, he says he’s “doing better” now.
“I’m a big CrossFit and hiking guy, so eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of crazy,” he recently told People. “But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy.”
He’s also admitted that filming his show with the injury has been challenging, but that slowing down so he could recover has left him in a position where he expects to be “up and ready and healthy and rolling” in time for the Super Bowl—and, more importantly, in time for his Flavortown Tailgate party with his two sons, Hunter and Ryder, and his nephew, Jules.
“My doctors are all like, ‘We know you want to get after it, but let’s not go back to where we were.’ And I’m like, ‘We are never going back to that!'” Fieri said. “That was the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years.”
