I am what’s considered a chronic overpacker. If I’m going away on vacation for five days, I somehow cram at least 15 outfits and a Sephora’s worth of skin care products into my suitcase. But the one item I don’t overpack? Shoes — more specifically, sneakers. I make sure every single one of those outfits goes with one pair of sneakers, and I wear them nonstop whether I’m gone for 24 hours or 24 days. While I have a plethora of sneakers in my shoedrobe, the ones I’ve slipped into more often than not these days are the Allbirds Tree Dasher 2 sneakers, which have let me walk pain-free mile after pain-free mile on multiple vacations.

I’d been curious about Allbirds long before I tried the Tree Dasher 2s. After all, any brand that counts Hilary Duff and Jennifer Lopez among its devotees certainly made me sit up and take notice. I’m so glad I finally added these sneakers to my arsenal, since they’ve come with me on multiple vacations. In fact, I’ve worn them in Boston, Cleveland, and Disneyland this past year, walking at least seven miles around the theme park with pillow-like comfort underfoot. I even keep a pair in my car in case I ever have to do a quick-change into something more comfortable at a moment’s notice.
The Allbirds Tree Dasher 2s have a host of comfort-friendly features that make them a go-to in my sneaker-drobe. For starters, they’re designed with sustainable materials, including natural rubber outsoles and foam insoles made from castor bean oil. Even the eyelets and shoelaces are sustainable, the latter of which is made from recycled plastic bottles. I’m especially enamored with the flexible cushioned midsoles and the unique, lightweight knit design.
My other favorite feature is the heel collar, which is lightly padded for extra comfort. More than that, though, it helps lock the ankle in place to increase stability. I broke my ankle almost a decade ago, and ever since, I’m always on the lookout for shoes that do exactly that. Every time I slip these sneakers on, I feel secure and ready to walk, without feeling like they might cause me to stumble at any given moment.
These sneakers are really versatile, too. I’m always a fan of white sneakers, and I love that this pair adds pizzazz to everything from leggings to jeans to mini dresses. In addition to white, they come in gray, black, and white with colorful laces, and they’re available in sizes 5–11, with half-sizes. You can find additional colors on the Allbirds website, too.

As someone who enjoys long walks, especially on vacation, I am certainly glad I discovered the Tree Dasher 2s. I can slip them on, do all my sightseeing, and not feel a thing. I appreciate how lightweight they are, too, since I can wear them in all sorts of climates without overheating. I’ve also worn them while running errands, shopping, brunching, and, of course, those aforementioned Disneyland days, all without a single blister or ankle spasm. I’m especially impressed that I could even stand in 45-minute lines without back pain or ankle pain.
I’ve worn these sneakers pretty consistently throughout the past year, and I have a feeling I’ll be adding more colors to my closet ASAP. Curious about whether they’ll work for your next trip, too? Sounds like it’s time to try them out. Shop the Allbirds Tree Dasher 2 Sneakers for $135, and discover more Allbirds sneakers, below.
