- Over 12,000 pounds of bacon have been recalled in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) gave the recall the highest risk level.
- Here’s a list of affected products.
There’s nothing like a great strip of bacon, whether enjoyed on its own or added to a breakfast dish or sandwich. But if you just restocked, you may want to take a second look at the package in your fridge or freezer: Over 12,000 pounds of bacon have been recalled, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Per the USDA’s announcement, the bacon is being pulled from shelves by the manufacturing company, Maple Leaf Foods Inc., after a “problem was discovered during routine Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection activities.” The USDA has classified the recall at the highest risk level, as the bacon “was imported from Canada without the benefit of import reinspection into the United States.”
As of right now, there are no reported illnesses associated with the recall. That said, as with any recalled food, you probably want to make sure you don’t have any of the affected bacon. Here’s what you need to know.
Which products are included in the recall?
The recalled bacon was sold under two different brand names—Royale and Top Valu—and distributed to grocery stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Check your kitchen for the following.

What should I do with a recalled product?
While there have been no reported illnesses associated with this recall to date, the USDA is urging anyone who does have the recalled bacon in their fridge or freezer not to consume it. Instead, throw it away or return it to its place of purchase. You can also contact the manufacturer with questions at 416-518-5131 or adam.emery@mapleleaf.com.
If you have already eaten the recalled bacon and have any health concerns, be sure to contact a doctor right away.
