I test a lot of different sneakers as part of my job, but time and time again I come back to my reliable pair from Brooks. As someone who walks a lot and has plantar fasciitis, I need shoes that have enough cushion to support both movement and standing still. But as a mom on a budget, I’m aware that good pairs of sneakers can get expensive—which is why I recommend scooping up my current go-to pair while they’re 30% off.
I’m currently prepping for a long walk (The Great Saunter, a 32 mile stroll around the island of Manhattan in May), and I’ve been doing my 4-7 miles walks in my Glycerin 22 for that perfect blend of cushioning and bounce. I love the shape of the toe box and how lightweight they feel, while also adding some spring into my step. I also wore them multiple days at Disney World, and they were perfect for getting steps in between rides. If you’re looking for a solid all around shoe, the Ghost 17 is a good option, as it’s a neutral shoe that’s got plenty of cushioning for walking and running alike. The Catamount 4 and Caldera 8 are both great options if you are planning to do some hiking or want to do trail running. The grippy soles are specially designed for the dirt and mud you’ll encounter as you head off the road. I’ve been eyeing the Caldera as stability is important to me—but if you’re looking for speed, go for the Catamount instead while it’s steeply marked down.
