Earlier this summer, jalapeños at Chipotle and other restaurants were linked to an ongoing salmonella outbreak. Now, your mangoes might be at risk of harboring bacteria that can make you sick, too.
According to an announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on August 29, Panorama Produce is voluntarily recalling 302 boxes of Martina mangoes in four states due to possible salmonella contamination. While there are currently no reported illnesses associated with the recall, the FDA warns that people infected with salmonella may experience “fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.”
In rarer cases, salmonella can result in a more serious or fatal infection, especially for “young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.” Here’s what you need to know.
Which mangoes are included in the recall?
The recall includes 302 boxes of mangoes that were sold in select Walmart stores in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The mangoes were packaged in Martina-branded crates, and each one has a light blue sticker with the label “Agrofepac, Produce of Mexico,” and the following information:

What should you do with a recalled product?
Again, there are currently no reported illnesses associated with the recalled mangoes. However, the FDA is urging anyone who has them in their home to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
