  • K.C. Pharmaceuticals recalled millions of eye drops nationwide due to sterility concerns, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
  • Here’s a list of impacted products.

If you have seasonal allergies or suffer from dry, itchy eyes, eye drops may be a part of your daily routine. But you may want to take a closer look at the label of any bottles in your medicine cabinet. Millions of eye drops have been recalled nationwide, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

According to the FDA’s enforcement report, the recall was initiated by K.C. Pharmaceuticals due to “lack of assurance of sterility.” The FDA gave the recall a Class II designation, as using one of the recalled products “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

Here’s everything you need to know about the recall.

Which products are impacted by the recall?

The recall includes eight varieties of eye drops, all of which were manufactured by K.C. Pharmaceuticals and sold in 0.5 fl oz bottles. Check your medicine cabinet for the following products:

  • Sterile Eye Drops A.C.
  • Advanced Relief Eye Drops
  • Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops
  • Ultra Lubricating Eye Drops
  • Sterile Eye Drops, Original Formula
  • Sterile Eye Drops, Redness Lubricant
  • Sterile Eye Drops, Soothing Tears
  • Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops

The recalled eye drops were distributed nationwide at major retailers and drugstores, including Walgreens, Rite Aid, Kroger, and CVS. They may have been sold under a variety of brand names. For more information, including expiration dates, lot numbers, and the full list of brand names for the recalled products, see the FDA’s enforcement report.

What should I do with a recalled product?

The recall announcement doesn’t offer any specific consumer advice. The Class II designation means your risk of severe health consequences from using the recalled eye drops is relatively low. However, if you do have any of the recalled eye drops, it’s a good rule of thumb to stop using them. The safest thing to do when you have a recalled product is to throw it out or return it to where you bought it. If you have already used one of the recalled eye drops and have any adverse health concerns, be sure to get medical attention right away.
