  • The FDA announced the recall of fruit pouches sold at Kroger, Meijer, and Target.
  • The affected pouches have a packaging defect that may result in the presence of plastic strands inside the product.
  • Here’s how to tell if you have affected products—and what to do with them.

Fruit puree pouches have become a popular kids’ snack, thanks to their nutritional value and convenience. However, if you’re the type to keep these pouches handy, you might want to check your pantry.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has shared a recall alert for Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry pouches. Affected products were reportedly sold nationwide at Kroger, Meijer, and Target between March 6 and July 13 of this year.

PT Organics Limited, the company behind Pumpkin Tree, reportedly initiated the recall after its packaging supplier announced a recall of its own, due to concerns over a defect. PT Organics Limited’s inspectors later confirmed that a strand of “soft, food-grade plastic” was present in some of its pouches of Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry.

Below, how to identify affected products and what to do if you find them.

How to tell if your fruit pouches have been recalled

The recall is limited to 4-ounce pouches of banana and strawberry fruit puree, marketed under the brand name Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics. Affected products can be identified by the following barcodes and best-before dates, which are stamped in black ink on the back of the product, as well as by the lane number, which is printed on the rear right-hand side seam.
