These Supportive Slip Ons Relieved My Foot Pain

As someone who struggles with foot pain from collapsing arches and random bouts of plantar fasciitis, I rarely go barefoot—even inside my home. Wearing comfortable house shoes provides the all-day support that I need to keep the pain at bay.

“The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot, attaching the heel into the toes,” E. Charisse Dunn, D.P.M., a podiatrist and owner of PGA Foot & Ankle, previously told Prevention. “When it becomes inflamed, it causes tenderness when the heel is placed flat on the ground,” Dunn says.

Despite wearing my slippers around the house, as soon as I stepped onto my hard floors, the stabbing pain in my heel used to flare up. I decided to try a proper support shoe and brought home the Fulton Comfort Slides. After just one month of testing, I noticed my arch and heel pain started to fade. Curious if it could work for you, too? Read my honest review below.

Fulton is a modern arch support brand known for its shoe insoles designed to improve whole body wellness and relieve pain. Since launching, the brand has released two shoe styles and three types of insoles.

The Comfort Slide has a simple design featuring a compressive elastic strap and a cork footbed. While they may look like any other slide at first glance, they’re designed with support and stability to relieve foot, knee, back, and joint pain.

How I tested

Over the past month, I’ve almost exclusively worn my Comfort Slides when I’m at home. As soon as I get home from the office, I switch into the slides and wear them until bedtime. Whether I’m cooking dinner, taking out the trash, or working from home, the slides provide all-day comfort. Since they’re intended for indoor use, I only wear them outside for quick trips to the curb or on my roof.

Fit and design

Like most other recovery slides, the slip-on design of Fulton’s Comfort Slide makes them super convenient to wear. I love rolling out of bed in the morning and sliding into these shoes without thinking. Plus, the open-toe design allows for more breathability, and you can wear them with or without socks.

They’re only available in whole sizes, so if you are a half size, the brand recommends sizing up. I’m typically a size 8.5 and the 9 fits me perfectly, although some reviewers say they had trouble finding a good fit. “I have size 7 Fulton inserts in my shoes and they fit perfectly. The size 7 comfort shoe is too small and the size 8 house shoe is too big,” writes one reviewer.

The compressive strap comfortably hugs my foot without feeling too restrictive, and over time it stretched to become looser yet still supportive. I also appreciate that the strap never rubs or chafes, and the wide band holds my feet in place.

The Comfort Slide also features the brand’s signature custom molding cork base, which molds to your foot shape to stabilize your ankle, prevent overpronation, and relieve pain. Beneath the cork base is a rubber sole to provide traction and prevent slipping on smooth floors. A layer of cushioning foam lines the footbed to absorb shock and has a suede-like feel that’s soft and comfortable against the skin.

My only complaint about the fit and design of the Comfort Slide is the thwacking sound they make while walking (imagine a classic flip-flop sound but louder). During testing, I deduced the sound is made from the base of the shoe slapping the bottom of your feet. Other reviewers experienced the same issue: “The slides are very comfortable and supportive. My foot pain has improved since I started wearing them. The only problem I have is the LOUD thwucking sound they make when I walk. I can tolerate it, but it drives my husband mad,” writes one reviewer.

In response, the brand wrote that the sound “can sometimes be related to how the slide is fitting, how the strap is holding the foot, or how the footbed is breaking in.” After a month of wear, the sound seems to have reduced (or I’ve just gotten used to it), and wearing socks with the slides helps minimize noise.

Cushion and support

The comfort Fulton’s slides provides is unbeatable, especially given their lightweight and sleek design. Finally an arch support shoe that doesn’t look like it’s made for your elderly dad!

They’re great for all arch types—from flat fleet to high arches—and the longer you wear them, the more comfortable they become, molding to your unique arch shape. My podiatrist told me that I have high arches that collapse when walking, and as a result, I should avoid going barefoot at home. The Comfort Slides have helped me form a new healthy habit and avoid heel pain, especially first thing in the morning.

Fulton estimates that after around 10 hours of wear, the cork footbed has molded to your foot, but I noticed immediate relief and little to no break-in period. The deep heel cup also stabilizes my feet to prevent overpronation and supination.

The final verdict

If you’re looking for an easy, supportive shoe to wear around the house, I definitely recommend Fulton’s Comfort Slide. Available in three colors (Cream, Black, and Sage Stripe), they’re fashion-forward, sustainable, and offer real pain relief. Whether you deal with achy joints, overpronation, back pain, plantar fasciitis, or tendonitis, these are worth checking out.

Plus, Fulton offers a 90-Day Comfort Guarantee, so if you aren’t completely sold after three months, you can return them.
