  • Denise Austin shared a quick and easy treadmill workout you can do in just five minutes.
  • The fitness pro says the results are a “leaner waistline, tighter glutes, and stronger legs.”
  • Here’s how to do the workout at home.

Feeling bored with your walking treadmill workouts? Lucky for you, Denise Austin is here to help you shake things up. The fitness pro recently took to Instagram to share an effective treadmill workout you can do in just eight minutes.

“TURN your walk into a TONING workout!!… Here is the sequence I am loving right now,” Austin captioned her Instagram video. “The results?! A leaner waistline, tighter glutes, stronger legs, and a metabolism that keeps burning long after you are done!! And you never even have to leave your living room!!”

If you want to try the workout yourself, we’ve got you covered with all the details. All you need to get started is your treadmill or walking pad and five minutes to spare.

Walking warm-up

“You want to start with a good warm-up,” Austin says, setting her treadmill to 2.5 mph to start. “Just pump those arms,” she demonstrates, pumping her fists forward as she walks. “Get the blood circulating. Do this for about five minutes. Really use your legs, use your arms—it helps your waistline.”

Back lunges

After the warm-up, Austin stops the treadmill and steps off to the side. Holding onto the treadmill bar with her closest arm, she steps back with her far leg into a bent-knee lunge before returning the back leg and switching to the other side.

“Make sure you sit back, and your knee stays at a 90-degree angle,” she explains. “Do this for one minute to really work that lower half. It’s great for the glutes. Think about good posture—tummy’s in, back is strong and straight, and sit back into it.”

Squats

For the next move, Austin shifts to a wide-legged stance and holds onto the treadmill bar in front of her with both hands. Maintaining her hold, she sits back into a squat position and lifts back up. “Really sit back through your heels,” she explains. “Good technique is very important here.” Again, Austin recommends continuing the exercise for one minute.

Standing abs

To finish the routine, Austin lets go of the treadmill bar and returns to standing with her hands interlaced behind her head for ab work. She then lifts one knee toward her chest, lowers it, and switches to lift the other. “Lift your chest up and pull your abdominals up and in to work that core,” she says as she demonstrates. “Do this for one minute.”

Once you’ve finished the full sequence, Austin recommends repeating the series as many times as you’d like, depending on how much time you have.
